 A city break to Rome is certainly a unique experience, as the capital of Italy is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Rome is the greatest open-air museum in Europe, full of ancient ruins and amazing architectures. A walk to the ancient center of the city will transfer you to the era of Roman Empire, demonstrating the glory and power of Rome during the centuries. Some of the most important monuments of this era include the incredible Colosseum, which is surely the top tourist attraction of Rome, the administrative and corporate heart of ancient Rome, namely the Roman Forum and the impressive temple of Pantheon. Besides these exceptional antiquities, Rome offers a wide range of superb museums and art galleries too, such as the Vatican Museums and the Capitoline Museums. Moreover, another main attraction of the city is its great Squares (Piazze) and Fountains. The must Fountain of the city is the fantastic Trevi Fountain. Squares that you should not miss include Piazza Venezia, which represents the heart of the city, the masterpiece of Piazza di Spagna with its famous Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona. Of course, nobody should miss St Peter’s Square in front of St Peter’s Basilica, which is Christianity’s largest basilica and surely among the most glorious and beautiful ones. After your sightseeing, explore Rome’s great opportunities for shopping, fun and relaxation. Some of the most famous Italian boutiques, like Valentino, Gucci and Prada can be found in the area around Piazza di Spagna. However, if you are interested in contemporary stylists and designers Via del Banduino should be your next stop. As the night falls, Roman nightlife will just come to you. You can start your night from the stoned streets of Trastevere and pick one of the cozy cafes or restaurants of the area. The University area of San Lorenzo could also be a fine choice, as it is full of bars, pizzerias and pubs. For those that like dancing the best choice would be the area of Testaccio, certainly the hottest spot of Roman nightlife.
Rome’s main airport is Fiumicino or Leonardo da Vinci, which is perfectly connected to the center by an express train. The other airport of the city, namely Ciampino, is smaller and during the day offers regular commute to the city with a Contral bus. To get around Rome you can either use Rome’s extensive bus and tram network or the much simpler subway. Moreover, the Roman metro has two lines (A red and B blue) that go round rather than through the historic center. Roman metro crosses at Termini Central Station. This is where you can also take the night bus from 00:30 to 5:30 am. Night buses can also be taken in Piazza Venezia.
