Tourist Guide Barcelona
It is certain that a city break to Barcelona means a holiday to one of Europe’s most lively, fun and art destinations. The Catalonian capital is a place unlike any other you have visited. The combination of its Mediterranean beaches, great modern life and superb art museums will absorb you. Start your day with a walk along the famous Ramblas Street and enjoy the fantastic shops, street performers, cozy cafes and bistros. Aim towards Barcelona’s port and the great statue of Columbus pointing the Americas. There, you should try some of the Seafood restaurants in Barceloneta (Marina). Be prepared for the best Paella in Spain!
For you sightseeing you may use a rickety tram from the Tramvia Blau and trip up to the top of Tibidabo. The most famous sight of Barcelona is the marvel architecture church of Sagrada Familia. The temple of Sagrada Familia is the big unfinished work of Antonio Gaudi. Today it has become a monumental symbol of Barcelona across the world. Another Gaudi masterpiece is La Pedrera, the roof of which with the famous chimneys is a genuine work of art, and the Parc Guel that constitute landmark of the city. One of the most emblematic buildings in Barcelona that should not be missed is the Casa Batlio, built in 1904 also by the great Antonio Gaudi. Apart from the creations of Gaudi in Barcelona will find a wide variety of monuments, squares and artistic creations. In the centre of the town you cannot miss the main shopping street of La Rambla, which ends at the port of Barcelona, where it stands the imposing statue of Columbus (Monumento a Colon). Finally, we recommend you to visit the Picasso Museum (Museo Picasso) and art gallery of Joan Mirro (Fundacion Miro).
Lifestyle Barcelona
Barcelona is one of Spain’s most cosmopolitan cities and comprises home to a diverse population from all over the world, while retaining a strong local Catalan identity. Catalonian lifestyle means an exciting diversity of options pertaining to your entertainment mixed with a relaxed and open mined culture. Try some great Indian dishes in the multicultural Raval, relax and enjoy “tapas” in the Eixample, chill out with a lazy, cool “copa” in the hip, have a relaxed drink at the beach and stroll around the backstreets of La Rambla.
As the night falls Barcelona comes alive. Be prepared to change your rhythm and enjoy the city’s nightlife to the maximum. Classical and jazz dance halls, like the unparallel Palau de la Musica Catalana, superb nightclubs and a cheerful atmosphere compose every night's unique scenery. During summer a sunset drink at one of Barcelona’s beach bars is a must. The old Gothic Quarter is another proposal. It is a place that you can find a huge selection of Tapas bars and cocktail lounges all year long. Last but not least, you will find a unique variety of Barcelona hotels that offer high quality services and relaxed environment.
Transportation
Commute to Barcelona is very convenient as its subway covers the entire city easily and fast. There are two different transportation systems, namely the subway with 5 lines and the FCG, with two lines within Barcelona and four more lines to nearby towns. Barcelona has a clean, punctual, air-conditioned metro system that will take you to most of the major sites. The metro is especially useful in the summer when it can be quite hot to walk everywhere. Taxis are an affordable alternative to public transport. A 15 mins journey will only cost about 10 Euros. Licensed Taxis have to charge you the amount displayed on the meter. The bus is also an option, as it has very regular itineraries.
Barcelona public transport system is not necessarily the best way to get around, as the city centre is not as big as you may think. The metro is excellent and you won't have to wait more than 5 minutes. However if you choose to walk you'll be surprised to discover that many sights in the city are a lot closer than you think.
